Biography

International painter and colorist, studied in Europe attending various painting ateliers and Art courses (Sotheby’s and ICA-Institute of Contemporary Art/Christies in London). Several years spent in New York City in the late 1990’s gave her the opportunity to join “The Art Students League of New York”. Through the years, she has participated in numerous group exhibitions and had her first solo presentation in New York City in 2002, where she presented a series of colorful murals. In 2005, she was selected to participate in the I Bienal of Etching and Graphic Work organized by the Cultural Council of Cáceres’ Town Hall, Cáceres, Spain; and in 2007 she was chosen to participate in the Florence Biennale of Contemporary Art, Florence, Italy.

Galley is a life member of “The Art Students League of New York”; she exhibits internationally and her paintings are held in numerous private collections around the world.

A lot of her inspiration emanates from the intense colors, motifs, symbols, and light of Mexico, as well as from its history, its culture, its markets, and its long-standing tradition of Arts & Crafts.

Some recent reviews of her work during “The Arad International Biennale of Contemporary Art 2005 (Arad, Romania)” include the following:

Cultural Section of the Newspaper “Observator”, by Andrei Ando, Editor in Chief: (...) Artist Anne-Joëlle is a delightful presence in the context of the Biennale. She is exhibiting two spectacular works, oil pastels. With a combination of optimistic colors and shades, the strong, special and unique magnetism, which emanates from the artist's paintings, easily attracts the viewer. Her works can be seen at the Central Pavilion of the Exhibition. (...)

Cultural Section of the Newspaper Adevarul by Vasile Sarandan: (...) or Anne-Joëlle, oscillating between the explosive passion of a Van Gogh and the power of synthesis of a Paul Klee (...)
